A better way of storing low level waste prior to disposal. Heavy duty castors allow easy removal of wet or dry waste from the workplace. Clear acrylic, 10mm thick with hinged lid.

Where shielding is required for protection against Gamma emissions of [125I] Iodine and other Gamma emitters of lesser energy, a 12mm thick lead acrylic is required. This is the heavy gauge lead acrylic Jencons-PLS uses for its Gamma shielding products.

Beta emissions of 32P, 35S, 3H and 14C can be effectively blocked by 10mm thick optical acrylic. All Jencons-PLS Beta shielding is manufactured from heavy gauge 10mm thick acrylic.

Multi-Range Conductivity Meters, Hanna*

50-EC214 and 50-EC215 are professional multi-range conductivity bench meters suited for everyday laboratory use. These instruments are designed to be easy to operate without compromising accuracy and reliability. 50-EC214 and 50-EC215 perform measurements in four separate ranges allowing the user to switch applications without having to change the probe or recalibrate the conductivity meter.

Calibration is simplified by referring to the chart printed on the front of the instrument showing Standard Conductivity values at 25°C. These instruments are able to perform multi-range measurements by utilizing an innovative platinum 4-ring probe. Platinum rings provide more stable results, withstand higher temperatures and are easier to clean.

With 50-EC214 temperature compensation is performed manually with a simple adjustment of the knob on the front of the instrument. Temperature compensation with the 50-EC215 is automatic, thanks to a built-in temperature sensor in the conductivity probe. 50-EC215 allows the user to adjust the temperature coefficient from 0 to 2.5% per degree Celsius, an important plus in acidic, alkaline or highly saline samples.

Ideal for recording ambient conditions in the lab, monitoring differences that could affect sample analysis, and predicting weather changes.

Combination unit simultaneously displays current barometric pressure, bar graph of barometric trends, humidity, temperature, and date or time. Switches permit setting in °F or °C, and in.Hg or mbar.

SKU Description Units Price Quantity
45-4195 Digital Barometer 1 $195.60
45-4197 Compact Digital Barometer 1 $152.40

Traceable to NIST for accuracy
To assure accuracy an individually serial-numbered Traceable® Certificate is provided from our ISO 17025 calibration laboratory accredited by A2LA. It indicates traceability to standards provided by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Tehcnology.

Memory stores barometric readings
Graphic barometric trend shows present reading and previous 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hour readings in a bar-chart format. Hourly digital barometric readings are stored in memory, and can be recalled and displayed for each of the past 24 hours. There is an adjustable altitude compensation from -100 to 2500 meters.

Barometer measures pressure from 23.45 to 31.01 inches of mercury (inHg) with a resolution of 0.03 inHg, and from 794 to 1050 millibars (mbar) with a resolution of 1 mbar. Accuracy is ±0.1477 inHg (±5 mbar).

Chemical Accidents (Seveso II) - Prevention, Preparedness and Response

Chemical Accidents (Seveso II) - Prevention, Preparedness and Response

What is Seveso?

Major accidents in chemical industry have occurred world-wide. In Europe, following the Seveso accident in 1976 prompted the adoption of legislation aimed at the prevention and control of such accidents. In 1982, the first EU Directive 82/501/EEC – so-called Seveso Directive – was adopted. On 9 December 1996, the Seveso Directive was replaced by Council Directive 96/82/EC, so-called Seveso II Directive. This directive was extended by the Directive 2003/105/EC. The Seveso II Directive applies to some thousands of industrial establishments where dangerous substances are present in quantities exceeding the thresholds in the directive.

The Seveso accident

The "Seveso" accident happened in 1976 at a chemical plant in Seveso, Italy, manufacturing pesticides and herbicides. A dense vapour cloud containing tetrachlorodibenzoparadioxin (TCDD) was released from a reactor, used for the production of trichlorofenol. Commonly known as dioxin, this was a poisonous and carcinogenic by-product of an uncontrolled exothermic reaction. Although no immediate fatalities were reported, kilogramme quantities of the substance lethal to man even in microgramme doses were widely dispersed which resulted in an immediate contamination of some ten square miles of land and vegetation. More than 600 people had to be evacuated from their homes and as many as 2000 were treated for dioxin poisoning.

Biocides: Introduction and Objectives

Biocides: Introduction and Objectives

Directive 98/8/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the placing on the market of biocidal products was adopted in 1998. According to the Directive, Member States had to transpose the rules before 14 May 2000 into national law.

The Commission adopted the original proposal for the Directive in 1993. Directive 91/414/EEC on plant protection products, adopted in 1991, served as a model for the new Directive.

The Biocidal Product Directive aims to harmonise the European market for biocidal products and their active substances. At the same time it aims to provide a high level of protection for humans, animals and the environment.
